Local government is operating under immense pressure, but through innovation, partnerships and determination, councils continue to transform lives and places. The LGA plays a unique role: giving councils a strong national voice, shaping national policy and legislation, influencing funding decisions and ensuring councils’ experience and expertise are at the heart of national decision-making. It’s an exciting time to join as we build new ways of working with government, including our developing partnership with Number 10 North.

And, despite the pressures facing councils, local government remains hopeful and optimistic: there is an opportunity now to help turn the ambition of greater devolution into reality, so that power flows differently and places have a stronger hand in shaping their futures.

There is nowhere quite like the LGA. Our people combine national reach with deep sector and policy expertise, united by a determination to make a difference that is felt in councils and communities across the country. We’re cross-party and politically led, working with leading politicians from every part of England to build consensus, represent our members and make the strongest possible case for local government.

Over the past year, the LGA has secured £1.4bn funding to support prevention in children’s social care, the SEND system, homelessness and rough sleeping services; been quoted more than 280 times in Parliament and provided over 100 corporate peer challenges through our sector support programme.
